Hovenia dulcis Thunberg is an herbal plant belonging to the Rhamnaceae family. Particularly, H. dulcis extracts are used in the Chinese Traditional Medicine in the treatment of several diseases. The whole plant extract is helpful in the hangover syndrome, decreasing alcohol concentration in blood, promoting clearing of alcohol and elimination of free radicals and avoiding dysfunction linked to alcohol abuse [1,2]. Fruits and peduncles possess antimicrobial, antioxidant and antidiabetic activities, while seeds can be used in the treatment of alcohol intoxication for their diuretic properties.
