Giant knotweed extract, Latin name Polygonum Cuspidatum Sieb, is extracted from the dry stem and root of Polygonum cuspidatum. Produced in eastern China, central China, southern China, and other places, it has the function of anti-oxidant and anti-atherosclerosis; it is helpful in treating coronary heart disease, ischemic heart disease, and Hyperlipidemia. The main active ingredient is trans-resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene), which is a natural compound. It is a powerful antioxidant produced by some plants to protect them against environmental stresses. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, which are believed to be the cause of aging. Japanese knotweed is the plant source with the highest resveratrol content.
